Gender Challenge: Action taken
These are the main actions that the students in both schools have taken so far.
- The Chichiri students first raised awareness of this issue by putting up posters within their community
- Both sets of students wrote joint letters to the Minister for Gender in Malawi, describing their research and imploring the Malawi government to promote Global Goal 4 on ‘quality education’ and Global Goal 5 on ‘gender equality’
- Hutchesons’ pupils wrote to the Department for International Development in London, again describing the Chichiri students’ findings and asking that the British government continue to support girls’ education, to which the Minister replied describing the ways in which they are continuing to increase their support for girls in Malawi and other countries.
